Check the number of rows on ListView

Hi,
I have a list view.I have insert itemtemplate, and edit item template.The user fills in details of sales.
I have a submit button.When the user submits the page, i need to check, if the user has entered atleast one row in the listview.
I have required field validator, next to textbox on both Edit template and insert template.But they only check for Insert button and Edit button on listview.
Is there a javascript way to check, if the listview has any rows or should i check with the database? Please Suggest

Very well you can go for Java Script to determine the row count of a list view

eg Look at the code below

Here is my List View 
 
 <asp:ListView ID="LView" runat="server">
            <LayoutTemplate>
                <table id="itemPlaceholderContainer">
                    <tr runat="server" id="itemPlaceholder">
                    </tr>
                </table>
            </LayoutTemplate>
            <ItemTemplate>
                <tr runat="server" id="itemPlaceholder">
                    <td>
                        <asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server" Text='<%#Eval("name") %>' />
                    </td>
                    <td>
                        <asp:Label ID="Sal" runat="server" Text='<%#Eval("Salary") %>' />
                    </td>
                </tr>
            </ItemTemplate>
        </asp:ListView>
 
and JavaScript function to deduct the row count in a list view 
 
function GetCount()
    {
        var List = document.getElementById("itemPlaceholderContainer");    
        alert("No Of Rows" +List.rows.length);
    }
 
based on this you can perform validation 
 
Make sure you must use the document.getElementById("itemPlaceholderContainer");  matches with the ID Specified in the 
 
 
<LayoutTemplate>
                <table id="itemPlaceholderContainer">
