It's not the best or the worst practice, it has to be there so that .NET would recognize the variable as a parameter. That's just part of the syntax and you can't get away with not using it

Browse All TopicsHi, I use asp.net and SQL server. I've noticed that when adding a paramter value to a SQL command in ASP.net it seems to accept @parametername and also just the parameter name. See code below.
Should I be using the @ prefix or not? I'd appreciate some official confirmation rather than a yes/no... :-) Thanks!

It's to do with the fact that you'r using SqlCommand. When defining parameters the placeholder is denoted with an @ symbol. If you were using OracleCommand it would be a colon : instead.
