Linq to Entity simple subquery?

Hi ,
I want to make simpe subquery and cannot get it to work. Littel help would be great :)

SELECT DISTINCT * FROM OutgoingPaymentBatch AS b WHERE b.ID in
      (SELECT fk_OutgoingPaymentBatchID as ID FROM OutgoingPaymentBatchRow AS r WHERE r.PaymentType = 2)

This works fine and now I have to make storeprocedure out of it since I don't know how to translate it to Linq to Entity

This is what I have tried:

var result = from b in ctx.OutgoingPaymentBatch where b.ID == (from r in ctx.OutgoingPaymentBatchRow where r.OutgoingPaymentBatch.ID == b.ID select r.ID);

I also tired with .Contains but the problem is that I am comparing list and list<> and this is so easy to do in T-SQL with in keyword

Do you have foreign key relations with this at all?  It would likely make the query trivially simple.

I did not see the relation between your above query and what you trired with Linq, so I will try to decipher what I think you want.

or try this:

var IDs_ith_payment_type_2 = ctx.OutgoingPaymentBatchRow.Where(r => r.PaymentType == 2).Select(r => r.ID);
//now you have the list where payment type == 2
 
var result = from b in ctx.OutgoingPaymentBatch where IDs_ith_payment_type_2.Contains(b.ID) select b;

Hi,
I tried your  conde and got the error:
Message = "LINQ to Entities does not recognize the method 'Boolean Contains[Guid](System.Linq.IQueryable`1[System.Guid], System.Guid)' method, and this method cannot be translated into a store expression."

I have a relation like this: So  OutgoingPaymentBatch has property OutgoingPaymentBatchRow

Ah yeah, forgot that L2E doesn't support that.  Do you have any relations here?  It seems like these should be related.

I have this relation OutgoingPaymentBatch (Navigation properties: OutgoingPaymentBatchRow)
OutgoingPaymentBatchRow(Navigaiton properties: OutgoingPaymentBatch) from the EDMX view in VS2008 and the fk_relation can be seen on my comments above.

Seems like my problems aswer lies in here:

Now trying to use

string query = "SELECT DISTINCT b FROM OutgoingPaymentBatch AS b WHERE (b.ID IN (SELECT fk_OutgoingPaymentBatchID FROM OutgoingPaymentBatchRow AS r WHERE (r.PaymentType = 2)))";

ObjectQuery<OutgoingPaymentBatch> result = new ObjectQuery<OutgoingPaymentBatch>(query, ctx);

and now getting error that OutgoingPaymentBatchID is not knwon in this context....

No it's done with just Linq... with my own solution.  The magic was in Reference.Load...
