The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

VB Script does not exit properly when called from a command prompt

Hi,

My group has a bunch of VB scripts that we use to create a SQL Database and tables. The scripts all work fine. If I call the scripts using cscript or Wscript, the scripts run fine and close properly.

Right now I am doing

            DeclarMod.TVServerPath = Environ("TVPAKSERVERROOT")
            Dim myproc As System.Diagnostics.Process
            Dim Finline As String
            DelFiles.Delete("c:\installepg.log")
            pathstart = ""
            pathfin = ""
            pathfin = Chr(34) & DeclarMod.TVServerPath & "database\"
            pathstart = DeclarMod.TVServerPath & "database\"
            Finline = "cscript installepgdb.vbs" & " -log c:\installepg.log"
            myproc = New System.Diagnostics.Process()
            ' Do not receive an event when the process exits.
            myproc.EnableRaisingEvents = False
            ChDir(pathstart)
            myproc.Start("cmd.exe", "/c" & Finline)

This process works for all the VBSCripts except 1. Meaning, all the script quit correctly. 1 script seems to be stuck in the process list, even though it does run the wscript.quit command. I have added the //X to the command I call to walk the script through the debugger. And when I do there, it does close successfully, but when I remove the //X and let it run normally, it does not close. The VBScript is very long and so I won't post the entire script on here, but if you can assist, I will email you the script. I don't want to change the base functionality of my VB program to call the script in a differnet way, even though I know there are better ways todo this because the other scripts and commands work just fine. So, there has to be something going on in the 1 VBScript that is causing this problem.
