The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Roberto,

I don't know of an easy way to do this just using the checkbox control.  However, you can do this.

1. Put your checkbox on your form.
2. Blank out the text property.
3. Drag a Link Label onto your form next to the check box.
4. Using the "Link Area" property of the Link Label, set the start and end position of the text you want to act as hyperlink.

Hope this helps,

Keith

Thanks Keith,
I had considered that, but there must be another way surely.

Define a user control which has a check box and a link label. The check box and link label combinely forms your single item.

Now on your form add a panel and to the panel add the above user control to panel.controls (use contructor args to indicate which text to link).

This may not be a best solution but solves your problem.

If you like the solution, I can elaborate and can provide you some example code also.

02.29.2008 at 09:15AM PST, ID: 21015312
here is the code example....

create a user control and add a check box with no text and a link label. make sure you set these properties

Me.CheckBox1.Dock = System.Windows.Forms.DockStyle.Left
Me.LinkLabel1.Dock = System.Windows.Forms.DockStyle.Top

and the contructor of user control would be

 Public Sub New(ByVal pblnIsChecked As Boolean, ByVal pstrText As String, ByVal pintLinkst As Integer, ByVal pintLinkLenght As Integer)

        ' This call is required by the Windows Form Designer.
        InitializeComponent()

        ' Add any initialization after the InitializeComponent() call.

        CheckBox1.Checked = pblnIsChecked
        LinkLabel1.Text = pstrText
        LinkLabel1.LinkArea = New LinkArea(pintLinkst, pintLinkLenght)

    End Sub

In your main form add a panel with following properties
       Me.Panel1.AutoScroll = True
        Me.Panel1.BackColor = System.Drawing.SystemColors.Window
        Me.Panel1.BorderStyle = System.Windows.Forms.BorderStyle.Fixed3D

add a button to main form with handler as below

 Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click

        Dim a As New UserControl1(False, "a b c d e f", 0, 1)
        a.Dock = DockStyle.Top
        Panel1.Controls.Add(a)

        a = New UserControl1(True, "a b c d e f", 2, 1)
        a.Dock = DockStyle.Top
        Panel1.Controls.Add(a)

        a = New UserControl1(False, "a b c d e f", 4, 1)
        a.Dock = DockStyle.Top
        Panel1.Controls.Add(a)

    End Sub

here dock style setting on user cotrol is important to display them in order ( otherwise they get displayed on top of other)

Note that the items are displayed in reverse order.

You need to deligates (or events) to handle the clicks on links

finally to get the user input you can iterate Panel1.controls and check the check box value for each item.

check list box with links
check list box with links

Hmmm...

I might be missing something, but I'm not sure how the accepted approach is easier?   In fact, it looks to be more complex at first glance.

I don't care about the points, because I have a full subscription so please don't take my curiosity the wrong way.  I'm just trying to learn as much as I can.

Regards,

Keith
