The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Configuration "Full Trust" vs running locally.

Question/Advice:

I have written and tested a .NET 2.0 application using VB.NET, which in essence, is a giant, specialized CRM-type system.  The application connects to a SQL Server 2000 backend and uses stored procedures for all of the database transactions.  It may be important to note that this is our organization's first real .NET-based desktop application -- and as such several group policies are put into place that specifically prevent .NET assemblies from running that are located on networked drives.  In addition, the user's do not have rights to copy/install software to their C: drive.  Testing was accomplished by copying the application to a thumbdrive and running it from there.

The application was to be deployed to a shared network folder that all of the users (about 10 in all) have access to and shortcuts were created on each user's desktop.  In addition, an individual from the local helpdesk went to each person and ran "Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Configuration" to configure the path of the .exe as a "Full Trust" application under the "Local Intranet" code zone.

We set this up on a test subject's computer, no problems were detected at first.  However, the user reports a "report or function has too many arguments specified'  error on several queries.  I took the same .exe from the network and loaded back to a thumbdrive, ran it, and did not encounter any problems.  The only difference is the location of the application.

The stored procedures were referenced as data sources in the project and called that way.  I've looked at the application code, the data source designer code and the stored procedure and did not find any references to erroneous arguments.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
