The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

location provider?

Asked by sobreiro01 in .NET, C# Programming Language, Development Software

Hi folks,
I have a custom site map provider, that brings me the menu items for my application from a database. this inherits the StaticSiteMapProvider base class.

I am using the security trimming option to make visible only the items the authenticated user has rights to see, and it works fine, great!

But even it works fine, users still have access to the page if they brouser direct to the url of a page. I want to place all the logical of access in one place, without having to set one "location" node for each page in web.config.

My system is very dinamic and each page has a very particular set of users rigths. So, I decided to use a base class to all the pages, and include a logic in the "Load" event to restrict access. It´s a good solution, and worked weel.

My problem now, is that I work with a large team of developers, and it should be mandatory to have all pages inheriting from my base page class to make it work, and, it hard to control. I think, if it were possible to implement a custon "LOCATION" provider, I would make the default cheks for the web.config settings as it is done by the default provider and also would check for the sitemap nodes permission against the users permission, blocking the user access before the load event fires, without the necessity to use a base class to do this work.

I don´t know if I was clear. but that´s all. Any suggestions?
