Browse All TopicsI'm developing a service that will basically test a list of devices for network presence.
If they're 'live', then nothing is to happen, however, if they don't respond on the network, I want to keep a tally.
They will be tested weekly, but after three strikes, I want to perform another function.
So, I'm looking for suggestions on storing such a tally.
Registry, external file, something else?
Realize there could be 100 or more of these being tracked at any given point. Eventually, it'll be reduced, but still somewhere in the neighborhood of up to a couple dozen would still be possible...
So something that basically lists the hostname and the number of absences. Suggestions?

Wheather you use a database or flat file the functionality you need is "ping", it's built into .NET (see "Systm.Net.Networkinformat ion" of the System Namespace).
