The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

advice to design program to get data quickly  from database

Asked by earlrainer in .NET, Microsoft Visual C#.Net, .Net Application Servers

Tags: c# dot net architecture

Pardon me if  this sounds like a newbie question.
I have to make a new dot net program.
It is basically an order registration system.

There will be one server  having SQL Server database and 12 other computers connected to this database that will be used to take new orders. On these 12 terminals the operators will create new customers and create new orders.
Once an order or customer has been made on one terminal it should be searchable on the other computers.

The main requirement is that the search should be very very fast.
Soon the system may have 100 ,000 orders &  35 ,000 customers , 50 000 products etc
on click of a button the whole order register should be shown in the grid.Same with whole customer table.

I was thinking of making this application in a multi layer program with GUi layer, business layer  and dataaccess layer.
I am not sure what is the best option to pass data between layers - datasets , objects ??
will dataset be logical considering that we have so many orders?
Main requirement is that the speed of search is very very fast.Nothing else matters.
is it a bad idea to make layers considering speed is important ?

Please give your advice how to design this system.
Possibly in the future the database will be moved to a remote server and accessible via internet or VPN.
considering this , how will this affect the design of my system.

for a newbie its a bit confusing so please help me.View the Solution FREE for 7 Days
