Hello, I've read a few solutions related to this, and I wanted to make sure my understanding is right. I want to include email addresses in my contact page, but do not want automated crawlers to be able to easily pick up my addresses and pass it to spammers.
I am using ASP.NET. Is it as simple as putting an ASP Literal control, and then hardcoding the <a>...</a> text in Page_Load? I'm attaching the sample code below. I don't know how automated crawlers work, but since I can see the mailto code when I do a View Source, I wanted to make sure I was on the right track.

any way the browser is going to display the mails ids in the page when the page loads. so what difference it makes to the crawlers.

This wont help you avoid spammers as the email id is still displayed in the page. There are few common techniques though.
1. Use javascript unescape function and encode your email address using named characters entities. This will show the email address to user as it is but for a crawler it would be a named entity or garbage. A complete reference can be found here:

2. You can use an image instead of text to show your email address. Ofcourse you would need to remove mailto: tag otherwise the crawler will capture your emal address any way.
3. Write your email address in this way in html: name@abc.com - here @ sign is replaced by <PRE>@</PRE>.

You would probably be better to compose a form that collects user info (name, email, message and send to department) and then write a script to send the email server-side rather than client-side.
