Question

WebDev.WebServer.exe has stopped working.

Asked by: SkipFire

I frequently get the following error immediately after compiling when I use the Cassini web server instead of IIS.  I've gotten this issue on both Visual Studio 2005, 2008, and 2010.  I've gotten this under Vista and Windows 7 x86 and x64 on both.  I'm fully patched on both the OS and Visual Studio.  I can click close and then it will start a new instance of Cassini on my next run, but how can I make it stop doing this?  This happens with VB.NET and C# projects and I have seen this on every web application project I have worked on.

Out of sheer curiosity, have you tried disabling your firewall and/or antivirus? I know some need to be configured to let the development server do what it needs. I know I had that issue with ESET.

I only use Windows Firewall, and I've been seeing the problem with Microsoft Forefront Client Security for the Antivirus as well as AVG, but I'll try disabling both and seeing if that changes things.  I don't think it will because the error happens when I recompile code, so I think it has something to do with updating the files that Cassini is looking at.

Thanks, I think one of those must have been the problem, I am not getting the issue any more so I'll just play with the settings until I can figure out exactly what the problem is and fix it correctly.
