I don't think I mentioned that it is a COM server, but a cOM object. its an application like excel with a COM interface. If your familiar with OPC the com object is an opc server. If you are not familiar with opc then don't worry about it. The fact that its an opc server is irrelevant.
Its similiar to using com to open up excel. In this case the activex dll is supposed to open up an application. The error returned is visual basic error code 5.
I am not sure about the other machine you ask for, I mentioned that everything is on the same machine
What perplexes me is that the error is not returned in debug mode

Do you mean it's a COM Server?
Have you registered the COM libraries on the other machine?
What exactly is the error?
