With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not?   • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. Explain Delegates

Hey :)

Im looking for a fairly detailed explanation of using delegates in VB.Net, I have a good amount of programming experience, but havn't previously come across Delegates until I was looking at various pieces of code for Asynchronous Sockets, I've had a look at a few other webpages, but none i could find seem to give me what i want to know.

Mainly im after a few pieces of information

1. What are delegates used for, how do they work, why should they be used, any pro's or con's to using them, and situations you'd use them in
2. Possible code sample to illustrate these uses, and any applicable best practices to be followed when using delegates
3. Anything else you can think of relevant to delegates.

Ill start the value of the question at 300 points, if you give a good explanation that answers what im after, ill up to 500.
