The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

VB.Net Best Practice ??

Asked by pammoun in Microsoft Visual Basic.Net

Tags: best, practices

Hello Gurus,
It's been now few months I am reading and listening to Learnkey Videos for VB.NET along with the .Net technologies.
( I even attended Microsoft courses for Windows Forms Programming & ASP programming and WML Web Services.. and COM+ Services)
I feel I got a somehow good grasp of the technology (Im coming from VB 6 & VFP Background.)
I have read many books and tried all their examples combobox...dataset..datareader...SQL connections... etc....
So I feel now quite comfortable with the concept .
now comes to earning my living !!
I have been designing applications for over 12 years now in Fox Dos and switched slowly to VFP and now I am using mainly
VFP 8.0 .(I am nearly 40 years old )
I have a good concept of SQL Server (actually I got certified in it SQL 2000 - Administering and programming ).
In my spare time it's been like a month I have taken a small application I already have and tried to "migrate" it to VB.Net
Wow ! I must say that I am still in step 0 and I found myself that eventhough I know the commands...I still (eventhough I am a programmer)
I still lack the logic of .Net programming... and what is best a how to do this or that...and what is better this or that....
I looked around and was hoping to find a book , a tutorial that would depict for me a whole application built in VB.NET (even if very small )
so that I can see the concepts at practice... I could not find any...All I found is code snippets to do this or that... and that is definetly not what I am lacking...
I am seriously considering taking a private course with a programmer in .NET that would teach me in a way those things...
I found one and told him that I would like as teaching if we develop a small application together..
( anything... it will have no commercial value..I do not care...for that)
he is asking for 1200 $ (which is a lot ) for 2 months practice twice a week... 2hours each...
How can I be sure that I will benefit from that ? he needs his money before starting...
any other ways guys ?
I m sorry if it sounded like "the story of my life " but I have no other way to turn to...
So please , help me ... I feel I am facing a "middle age" programming crisis and I need to get going... with .NET
please advice me what is best to do...
Please.
(willing to give more that 500 points to that turning-point question in my professional Life)
