vb.net and microsoft access date problem

Hi guys;

I have an access database where i have one table with a field "closedate."
The date is in short date format in access.Now From my vb.net application user can input two dates in two text boxes and the query will return all the results which are greater and less than the dates.

e.g

closeDate >=01/07/2006 and closeDate <=31/07/2006
Now the date above are taken from the two text boxes and closeDate is the field in the database.

Now when i run this i get the error the following error
Data type mismatch in criteria expression.

I am using the following code to convert the text string to date.

Dim dateMax As DateTime = DateTime.Parse(Me.txtDateMax.Text)
Dim dateMin As DateTime = DateTime.Parse(Me.txtDateMin.Text)

I have also used ParseExact function as well but no use.Please help with this asap as its been confusing me alot.
