Browse All TopicsHello experts;
I am needing code to do this: When a user presses a button, the application will "read" a certain webpage and return a string variable from a certain area of the webpage.... ie. the title.
For example: user presses button, and my variable is populated from the title of a specified webpage ( i.e. amazon.com.... which would return <title>Amazon.com: Online Shopping for Electronics, Apparel, Computers, Books, DVDs & more</title> )
So how can I get my app to "go get" the title of a webpage? I assume it can load the pages source and capture everything between <title> and </title>. But I cannot figure how to do this. Any help is appreciated.
thanks

this code will get the web page as a string - then you can parse what you want
e(fullpath ), Net.HttpWebRequest) ' Return request in a response stream
ponseStrea m(), System.Text.Encoding.ASCII ) 'Put the results in one big string
Dim fullpath As String = "http://google.com"
Dim req As Net.HttpWebRequest '
Dim res As Net.HttpWebResponse
Dim sr As IO.StreamReader
Dim strResult As String
Try
' Create request for the web stream
req = CType(Net.WebRequest.Creat
res = CType(req.GetResponse(), Net.HttpWebResponse)
sr = New IO.StreamReader(res.GetRes
strResult = sr.ReadToEnd()
sr.Close()
Catch ex As Exception
strResult = "Exception occured"
End Try 'return the results
MsgBox(strResult)
