The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

VB.NET 2003 App and "Scheduled Tasks"

Asked by drc-is in Microsoft Visual Basic.Net

Tags: ,

Hello everyone,  I'm hoping this is simple and someone will know what my problem is.  I have an application that I wrote that basically pulls all the users/groups in active directory and syncs a database app. we have.  The application has two modes, interactive and automatic.  The form is shown in both except in auto mode the form opens, processes, and then closes.

Now this app. works fine when run in the debugger.  It also works fine when run in either mode (auto/interactive) when run by a use with sufficient privs.  It seemed to be working fine so we decided to schedule the task to run nightly in automatic mode.  The app is scheduled to run under a domain admin account so it isn't a priv thing.  The task just continues to say running in the scheduled tasks.  If you check Task Manager the app process is running under the correct user BUT the memory usage is almost nothing.  When the app is launched and sitting idle (in interactive mode) it should use approximately 30mb.  Instead the scheduled task is only using between 6-8mb.  Not only that the app does extensive logging while it is running but when run from the scheduled task does not log anything.  From what it looks like the app is launching but is not running.  If we log into the server under the account it is scheduled to run under and run the scheduled tasks it then does what it should.  (Open, process, and close)  But if you log into the server as a different user and run the scheduled task the same thing happens.  Am I missing something?  Do I need to add some code to accomodate the application running under a scheduled task as a different user?  Any thoughts are appreciated.
