The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

How to prevent report border from being shown when clicked

Hi experts,
I've developed a Crystal reports report and (at run-time) all looks Ok except when I click on a section. As soon as I do that the border for that section is displayed.

Is it possible to prevent borders from being shown when a section is clicked?

Thanks,
     Michael

Does the section have borders or is that being added when the section is clicked?

I think that is just how the viewer works.

What is your concern with seeing the border?

Sorry for not responding sooner, I didn't feel the best.

I guess my concern is that it deviates from the norm. If you preview an MS Word, Outlook, etc. document and click on any of its sections you won't see any borders, as they don't provide any additional value but can needlesly clutter the view.

Showing borders is great when designing the form but they're not so relevant afterwards, for standard documents anyway, therefore I was hoping not to show them.

As I stated above, I believe it is by design with no way to tuen it off.

Have you checked the viewer properties?

Yes I have checked viewer properties and I couldn't see anything interesting regarding this issue.

I may be wrong but I don't remember seeing such a feature in other applications that support a preview function so I'm a bit surprised that Crystal Reports have it working this way, without a disable property.

I'm just finishing off some other function and I'll get back to this in a day or so.

Thanks,

I have never had anyone complain about it.  What it is basically showing is the information for that sectiion (if detail then for one record).  I find it useful when checking reports to see where the sections are and if any are split.

I agree mlmcc in that I too find it useful to see where the sections are, during implementation.

I am also using Crystal Reports for simple documents, as it gives me formatting and export capability, so I am trying to replicate as much as possible the look and feel of a (for example) MS Word preview window.

The only way user can scroll down the preview page is to click on the document and user cursor up/down but as soon as they click the borders appear and the look and feel starts to deviate from what I'm trying to achieve.

One way around that would be for user not to have to click on the (CrystalReportViewer) Preview form after I show the form. I've tried to set focus to CrystalReportViewer control but nothing that I've tried worked, i.e. the user still had to click on the document to use cursor Up/Down.

Would you know how I can remove the need for user to click the document in order to use cursor up/down after Frm.Show?

I don't know of a way but then have never looked for one either.  Interesting idea.

The click is required to give the viwer the focus.  Perhaps in the application you can set the focus to the viewer.

I tried setting focus to the form, viewer, report, anything I could think of but nothing worked.
I even thought of simulating a viewer click event but couldn't get that working so I gave up on it.

I guess I might have to leave it as is.
