Question

how to keep the parent node selected vb.net

I' am using asp:menu control and have the datasource as sitemapdatasource

I want to keep the parent node(top menu item) selected even if the user navigates to child node

in the following code ACCOUNT  REPORT  NEWS TOOLS are my top menu options
now if a user clicks on account > Bill.aspx, I still want account to remain selected

I want the code in vb

i tried this and got the following error

Because you are declaring explicitly the handler for another control (topHorizontalMenu).
My sample was assuming that your menu has an ID = Menu1, that's why:

Protected Sub Menu1_MenuItemClick(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.MenuEventArgs) Handles Menu1.MenuItemClick

Try replacing my code with this (see how the handler name matches and how it's not declared explicitly):

       If e.Item.Parent IsNot Nothing Then
           e.Item.Parent.Selected = True

tried but it still doesnt work

once i go onto a child page, the parent item in the menu loses focus

i think i missed some thing.

I have a seperate left hand menu on the page which helps user (a CSS menu)

when I click on that the top menu item loses focus

Your top menu shouldn't loose focus if you click on the left one, can you please post your markup to have a better look?
