Is the application not working?
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsWe have created an application in VB.net in a Windows XP environment. We are now testing the application on Window's Vista machines. When we install the application, we get a message that msadox.dll will not register. Looking at the system32 folder, it appears to be present, but when we try to register it directly, using regsvr32, the error message indicates that it cannot find the file. We have also tried installing it on a 64-bit Vista machine. The file appears in the sysWOW64 folder, but again when we attempt to register it by hand, the error message indicates it cannot be found. Can anyone suggest a solution?

We have resolved our problem. We revised our code so we did not need to call msadox.dll. That is probably the crucial change. Also, we have switched to a different installation product. Instead of using the installer incorporated into Visual Studio 2005, we are using InstallShield. At any rate, the application is now installing and running on Vista.

I think those files already come installed and registered in Vista. For example, you don;t need to install MDAC in Vista, only in XP.
