use a parameter in a query string

Hi experts
In the code supplied i have hard-coded a surname into the query string, what i would really like to do is get the surname from a textbox to make the query dynamic, after doing a lot of research over the last few days i still cannot get this right, please help.

Dim dbadp As New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter("SELECT * FROM tblContacts where [Surname] = 'smith'", "PROVIDER=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source = AddressBook.mdb")
        Dim dTable As New DataTable
        dbadp.Fill(dTable)
        dbadp.Dispose()
        DataGridView1.DataSource = dTable

You can simply have:

But in this case, there is risk of SQL-Injection.
To overcome that problem you can use parameters.

In case of using Parameters, your code looks like:

Dim dbadp As New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter("SELECT * FROM tblContacts where [Surname] = ?", "PROVIDER=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source = AddressBook.mdb")
 
dbadp.SelectCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("Surname", txtSurname.Text);
 
'rest of the code goes here...
