The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

How to load a grid in a separate thread

Asked by Luigggye in Microsoft Visual Basic.Net, .NET Framework 2.x

Tags: load grid, separate thread, vb net

Hi,
I am building an application that needs to load a lot of rows (20.000 aprox rows) in a grid.
I already finished it, but I have noticed that the load process spend too many time, and the end user must to wait until the load process ends. (about 5 minutes).
So I want to load the grid (manually) in a separate thread, and while the grid is loading, give the opportunity to the end user to work with the grid, (with the rows already loaded).
In other words,
1) execute some query (mdx or transac sql) that can return about 20.000 rows or more, and about 100 columns.
2) save the result set (received from a database server) to an xml local file.
3) load the first 1000 rows to the grid from the xml local file. (quickly)
4) give the control of the grid to the end user (he will work with these 1000 rows already loaded).
5) in a second thread, continuing to load the grid from the xml local file (the next 1000 rows). (the end user must have control of the grid all time while the load process is in progress).
6) obviusly the end user will have access to the rows (1001-2000, 2001-3000, etc), while they become available. (by scrolling the vertical bar).

I would like a sample specially about the steps 3, 4, 5 and 6.

Anybody can help me please?

Thanks in advance,
