Your Input Matters Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. Hi, I'm using VB 2005, WinForms. I have an application that performs a series of mathematical calculations, some of which may take up to an hour. However, that is an extreme case and it will often take far less time. Having said that, I'd like to provide a way for my application to "estimate" - time to completion - for a given set of calculations.
I know that I can come up with some sort of formula that will estimate how many times the For Loop will run depending on "something...", but that really isn't accurate. A lot of things may affect the estimate, like processor speed, time slicing of other tasks being performed on the device, etc. I think there has to be a formula that auto-adjusts itself after a given number of loops and then re-adjusts itself continuously until the end of the process. I've seen a lot of applications do this...for example a file copy does this to some degree, but is there a specific formula that should be used?
Has anyone ever attempted to perform this type of calculator and if so how did you go about doing so?
