Question

String was not recognized as a valid DateTime.

I am trying to parse a variable for datatime.  I am currently checking to see if the data is null but as it turns out, there is one record that had a field blank "" instead of null.  I tried using an or statement in my if statement but it would not let me do this.  Can somone show me how to parse this correctly.

Here is my code and what I tried.

if (diagnosisResultRecord.diagnosisdata.AsmtOnsetDate == null)
                                {
 
                                    DateTime dt = new DateTime();
 
                                    if (dt.CompareTo(new DateTime()) == 0)
                                    {
                                        // Date is set to min, 1/1/0001 12:00:00 AM
                                        // SqlDateTime overflow. Must be between 1/1/1753 12:00:00 AM and 12/31/9999 11:59:59 PM.
 
                                        dt = System.Data.SqlTypes.SqlDateTime.MinValue.Value;
                                        MyGlobalVars.ECdiagnosisOnsetDate = dt;
 
                                    }
 
                                }
                                else
                                {
                                    MyGlobalVars.ECdiagnosisOnsetDate = Convert.ToDateTime(diagnosisResultRecord.diagnosisdata.AsmtOnsetDate);-------------------------------------------ERROR HERE

I tried changing this line to
 if (diagnosisResultRecord.diagnosisdata.AsmtOnsetDate == null or == "")
but that did not work.

Try this:

You statement :
if (diagnosisResultRecord.diagnosisdata.AsmtOnsetDate == null or == "")

Shoule be this:
if (diagnosisResultRecord.diagnosisdata.AsmtOnsetDate == null ||
    diagnosisResultRecord.diagnosisdata.AsmtOnsetDate == "")
{
    // The string was either a null or and empty string
}
