Compile-time method inlining

Hi,

I know inlining in C# can't be forced because the JIT decides wether it may be good or not.
However I need inlining for an application which needs extreme optimizations (there are billions of calls per second). I could inline code by hand but it would decrease code readability a lot.

So my idea is to modify the code just before compilation to inline the methods with a custom attribute then compile and then restore the original source-code.

However, I don't know how to do that. Do you have any clue ?

My suggestion is pretty simple. Backup the original source code first. Then, modify the code to inline method as mentioned and run the compilation. Finally, revert back this file to the original back up file. That the easiest way as i spotted.

Yes that's what I want to do.

But the real problem is : how can I execute these actions before and after the compilation when I press the compile button ?

I would like this to be integrated so that I can use it in several projects and I can share it to everyone.

Ok, with the help of your comment I figured out that I was looking for was MSBuild tasks.
So I accept your comment as the solution =)
