Question

asp.net TreeView SelectedNodeChanged Event

Asked by: JohnLucio

I need help in VS 2008 VB asp.net with the TreeView.SelectedNodeChanged Event. I'm trying to figure it out from this msdn source of information ( http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.web.ui.webcontrols.treeview.selectednodechanged.aspx ) but I can't get it to work in my code code behind as illustrated in the Attached Code Snippet. Please advise. Thanks.

Protected Sub Select_Change(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles treeCourses.SelectedNodeChanged
        Message.Text = "You selected: " & treeCourses.SelectedNode.Value
    End Sub

Try .Text instead of .Value:

Message.Text = "You selected: " & treeCourses.SelectedNode.Text

I already did. That didn't work either.

Can you post more code?  There is nothing wrong with what you've provided.

Okay, so I tried this, since the values are coming from xml:
If Not Page.IsPostBack Then
            Message.Text = Title 'where Title is actually the TextField value
End If
Anyways...please see attached Snippet of TreeView and XML. Thanks.

You see the dilemma, TornadoV?

by: TornadoVPosted on 2008-06-30 at 09:56:26ID: 21900886

Indeed, check this:
"... if you use navigate url treeview works in navigate mode and disables selection events. So you cannot determine the selected tree node."

It's from here:

by: JohnLucioPosted on 2008-06-30 at 10:47:47ID: 21901320

Sigh...well that's just great. So I guess this concept is actually useless then, and will have to come up with somethign else. There's no other way around this, right? Thanks.

by: TornadoVPosted on 2008-06-30 at 11:47:31ID: 21901863

I have one suggestion, you can remove NavigateUrlField="url", this way you'll get your Select_Change "back".  In there you can put your logic and after it is all done redirect to whatever URL you need.

Hope this helps.
