The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Developed Apps Not Working From Command-Line (OK in IDE)

Asked by Triskelion in Visual Studio, Microsoft Visual C#.Net, .Net Editors & IDEs

Tags: Visual Studio, DOT NET, C++, C# VB

[Using Visual Studio 2008 Standard]

** My console apps and WinForms apps created in C# (or VB) will NOT start from the command-line.**
... even "Hello, World!" fails.

I receive a dialog box (from DW20.EXE (Dr. Watson?)) saying:

"___ has encountered a problem and needs to close."
"We are sorry for the inconvenience."

** They will, however, run in the IDE in either Debug or Release mode.**

Apps created with C++ and even STARTED with C++ containing libraries and projects created in other languages work just fine.

** Also, if I install the programs on another machine, they work fine.**
I'm assuming something has "geeked" my GAC or something is wrong in the path.

I've mirrored the path of a functioning machine, I've done a "repair" on the VS installation
and I've done a bunch of updates from Microsoft (before, during and after the problem).

** I noticed the problem after I uninstalled CodeRush.  I did re-install CodeRush, but no help **

I want to fix this WITHOUT uninstalling VS 2008.
I do have the install disk here in case another repair is needed.

** I will award points for any solution that does not require me to uninstall/reinstall. **
