Question

WCF Service Binding

Asked by: kmcbrearty

I am trying to create the WCF binding in code rather than rely on the configuration file.  Mostly becuase I am having an issue with trying to set the recievetimeout and the sendtimeout through the config file.  It doesn't seem to take and I continue to get the error:

The HTTP request to 'http://localhost:59963/service/ESNGService.svc' has exceeded the allotted timeout. The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout.

The problem I am having with this code or the configuraiton file is that if I try to change the binding to a basicHttpBinding I am getting the error:

The remote server returned an error: NotFound.

Here is my bindings section in my config file.

            <bindings>
                  <customBinding>
                        <binding name="CustomBinding_ESNGService">
                              <binaryMessageEncoding />
                              <httpTransport maxReceivedMessageSize="2147483647" maxBufferSize="2147483647" />
                        </binding>
                  </customBinding>
            </bindings>

myBinding = New BasicHttpBinding()
        myBinding.ReceiveTimeout = New TimeSpan(0, 59, 0)
        myBinding.SendTimeout = New TimeSpan(0, 59, 0)

        address = New EndpointAddress(New Uri(Application.Current.Host.Source, "../service/ESNGService.svc"))
        proxy = New ESNGServiceClient(Binding, address)

Ok based on some additional research I believe the WCF service is using WSHttpBinding using SOAP 1.2 (which expects application/soap+xml) and I am trying to connect to the client using BasicHTTPBinding which uses SOAP 1.1 (which sends text/xml).

The next question is how can I change the WCF service to using SOAP 1.1?

by: kmcbreartyPosted on 2009-10-09 at 07:56:32ID: 25535659

Ok,  I got it working.  I changed the web.config file in in the ASP.Net application that was hosting the WCF service.  I found the custom binding that was created there and changed it to use a basicHttpBinding.  Thank you for your help in identifying what the problem was.  I just didn't know where to start and the error message that I was getting wasn't very helpful.  By enabling tracing I was able to get the information I needed to resolve the problem.
