im running a program using winsock on the receiver to collect the UDP data.
how can I tell what the sender's IP address is?
ive tried using getsockname() -- it returns zero for sin_addr.s_addr
ive tried using getpeername() -- it's giving an error.
maybe i'm doing it wrong.
how can i get this to work? am i even on the right track?
thanks

Hi rwj04,
> how can I tell what the sender's IP address is?
getpeername returning error indicates that you using unconnected sockets. Receive using recvfrom()
int recvfrom(int sockfd, void *buf, int len, unsigned int flags,
struct sockaddr *from, int *fromlen);
from is a pointer to a local struct sockaddr that will be filled with the IP address and port of the originating machine. fromlen is a pointer to a local int that should be initialized to sizeof(struct sockaddr). When the function returns, fromlen will contain the length of the address actually stored in from.
Cheers!
