i've never compiled gdb on hp-ux, instead i've downloaded and installed gdb (named as wdb on hp.com pages)
you can find it from via google: wdb site:hp.com. btw you need to register to their service to be
able to download it (registration is free). It works fine for me (both 32/64 programs).
