I would love to share the email with you, however, after reading your coments, I tried to open on another computer running Office 2003 and I got the same message, even though I saved the PP file to my hard drive. It would appear that the file must be corrupt. I have asked the sender to re-send. I'll let you know how that goes. I did take your advice and change some of the settings in PP. Thanks for your help.

I highly recommend you do not work on files -- open, close, or save -- from removable media. You're just asking for corrupt files. So, pull the files to your harddrive, open and work on them there, save them there, then copy them back to your flash drive.

Your file might be corrupt, but it's hard to say. See this:
"PowerPoint can't open the type of file represented by [FILENAME]" or "No text converter is installed for this file type"

The most reliable fixes in general are 1) Insert Slides from File (Home Tab | New Slides | Reuse Slides in PPT 2007 -- by the way, it's helpful if you include your version of PowerPoint) and 2) to open the file in Open Office's Impress.
That said, I'm trying to track down information on this error message and these files. I'd love to take this to email, get a copy of the file, and ask you some questions. Let me know if you're game.
