System() call: need to suppress console window ?

Zones: C++ Programming Language, C Programming Language

I execute - system(prog.exe param1 param2) call in my C++ program.
When I run run prog.exe, it runs as a windows program and there is no console window.
But when I execute it from the system() call, a console window appears.

How can I run run the program without the console window ?

system() creates a Command Prompt to run your program, which is why you geta console window. You could use one of the spawn() family instead: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/20y988d2(vs.71).aspx if you want to stick to using the C Runtime functions, or you could use the official Windows way of starting a new process instead, which is CreateProcess(): http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms682425(VS.85).aspx

If you want to use the Windows API but CreateProcess looks like overkill, you could use WinExec(): http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms682425(VS.85).aspx - WinExec is deprecated, but won't be going away any time soon.

'WinExec()' won't wait for the spawned command to finish. Besides, MSDN states: "This function is provided for compatibility with 16-bit Windows. Win32-based applications should use the CreateProcess function. "
