Hello experts

I've been playing a litle with unions. My goal was to create a method for using one of two functions with identical names in unrelated classes.

I've made this test solution which compiles using MS Visual C++ 6.0:

class one{
      string str;
public:
      one(string msg){ str=msg; };
      void Do() { _cputs(str.c_str()); }
};

class two{
      string str2;
public:
      two(string msg) { str2 = msg; };
      void Something () {_cputs("Oops\n"); }
      void Do() { _cputs(str2.c_str()); }
};

main()
{
      union
      {
            one* o ;
            two* t ;
            void* obj;
      }un;

      un.obj = new one("eins\n");
      un.t->Do();
      un.obj = new two("zwei\n");
      un.t->Do();
     return 0;
};
...Which prints
eins
zwei

Now i need to know if this solution always will work.

I am aware that heritance and virtual functions would make a nicer solution. But if this method works, it should be faster than using virtual functions?
