Speech SDK

Initially, I was going to use DTMF tones to input as data to the application. I'm still researching this DTMF and Speech SDK. I downloaded Java Tapi 1.2 but I can't seem to compile anything. That's why I'm searching other alternatives like Speech SDK. All I need is to input data (maybe voice, or dtmf tones?) through a telephone to the application. Anyone got any ideas?

what is it with DTMF that you are having problems with?
you know the frequencies of the various DTMF tones, so in getting the tones, all you have to do is to check the frequencies with reasonable error leeway to get the data inputed.

How would I get the input pulses or frequency in the first place? Does the modem handles that? If so, how? I know DTMF is not part of Hayes Standard AT. So could the DTMF function varies from one manufacturer to another?
That's why I'm looking for other alternatives like speech input. If somehow I can use DTMF easily, then using the tele keypad as input would be much better.

Your first question how I cannot answer, taht is why I don't think you can do it this way....but. DTMF tones are standard tones all over the world.

I take that back...this can be done with just a voice modem. See if you can find an answering machine application...Every modem comes with one, but you need the code.

Those softwares can detect DTMF during an incoming call? If it can be done, I probably need some TAPI SDK right? Is it free? Can I download it from somewhere?

Do some of your own research...i just gave you links of what i was talking about. I don't know if in the API it gives the digits or you will need to do some data analysis...

You could always go and buy a Dialogic board and use CTADE :)

I am doing my research while viewing this forum. Well, I was wondering if you use those software before and can tell me about it so I can narrow my search. I found what I was looking for. So good for me :). Oh thanks for the links and troubles. Anyway, sorry if I ASKED too much.

I've used Dialogic board...that is not what you are looking for. You want a cheap solution.

I think if you look through the code from those links you will find the solution...i'm not sure but you need an answering machine. They have the press 1 for this..etc.
So that will show you how to make it work.

I THINK the basic way this is being done is...set the modem not to negotiate...send out some voice after answer.
Take the data comming in and decode it. This is not easy...but do able (FFT crap). So... I am also sure how to do this is burried in the TAPI stuff...

I wish i had time to look into this...it is interesting. But I don't.

I'm looking and playing around with the tapi functions. The tapi32.lib is part of the standard SDK. I didn't know that. The functions looked promising, provided you have a voice modem I think. So I'm still learning how to make a simple TAPI application.

Dialogic boards are expensive but there are a bunch on eBay that might run cheaper.

Also, check out the CT ADE. It supports a number of different cards. Maybe it supports some fax/modems? They've got a real easy to use IVR-maker in the Graphical VOS tool though I'm not sure how easy it is to tie into WinAPI calls from the script.
