respected author Scott Meyers posits that non-member, non-friend functions are better than class member functions because they "increase encapsulation". I believe the article boils down to this:
Given a choice between:
class foo {
...
int DoWork();
};
...
foo o; o.DoWork();
...and...
int DoWork( foo& o);
foo o; DoWork(o);
he would nearly always prefer the latter. The article will take only a few minutes to read. If you've got the time, please read it and join the discussion!
