I have a .cpp file that got compiled.Now when am trying to link it to make a dll I receive this following error.

Error executing link.exe.
what can be the possible cause for this? I have included all the necessary file and the librry for this.This code is using IBM's Content Manager related APIs.This DKLogMessageInserts.hpp has the above said methods that are showing as an external unknown.
Please help.

In Visual Studio 6, an appropriate way to set the linker options is to go to the 'Project' menu -> 'Settings' item.
This opens a 'Project Settings' dialog where you can set all of the project build and linking options. Select the 'Link' tab to show the linker settings.
You will see an edit box with the title 'Object/library modules' and see a bunch of .lib files listed in there. This is where you set extra .lib files to be linked with your program.
Since you've listed the directory that all of the .lib files are in, let's go ahead and set that directory to be searched for the .lib files so that you don't have to type the full-path each time!
First, in that modules edit box, add each of the .lib files that you need: cmbicm816.lib cmbicm817.lib look to be it. Keep a space inbetween them.
The versions that end with 'd' are the debug versions, and you should only link those with the debug build. The non-'d' versions should link with the release build. To check this, in the upper left corner of the 'Project Settings' dialog, you'll see a combo-box with the label 'Settings For' with options such as 'Win32 Release' and 'Win32 Debug'. By switching between these items, you can set the different modules names for debug and release.
Now, back to the directory. Staying in that 'Link' page, change the 'Category' combo-box item from 'General' to 'Input'. This switches to a new page. At the bottom, you'll see another edit box labeled 'Additional library path'. Simple add C:\Include\LIB\LIB to this.
You might notice that the 'Input' page has both the modules and the directory settings --- making changes to the modules here is just as valid :)

You are simply not linking the library that contains those external methods.
Have you added the .lib file for the Content Manager API to your linker input?
