thread safe problem in VC6

Hello Experts,
I have one class that has a list(List from STL) of 3D points. There is another program written by someone else that will use this class, this program has multiple threads. The problem happens when one thread tries to access a point from the list while another thread is creating or deleting the point. How can i solve such thread safe problem? I have searched the internet, looks like STL itself does not have such a function. Could someone please give me some hint?
