How to load bitmap file into byte array and manipulate it?

Hi,
I would like to know how to load bitmap file into byte array so I can do calculation and manipulate the picture by using that byte array then save it back into the bitmap file. Perhaps someone can offer me an example.

Have a look at a description of the BMP file format e.g. at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMP_file_format

It describes what information is expected at which position of the file.
