With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? Formatting strings , dates etc in c# as in VB6 Format command

New to C#.
I am a VB6 programmer and new to C#. I use the Formt command in VB 6 extensively in my code and could not find a similar command in C#. Need some tips here please.

some of teh examples in in VB6 I can use are
?format (now , "dd/mm/yyyy")
01/06/2007
?format(now, "dd/mm/yy HH:MM")
01/06/07 16:25
?format( "2012548.859", "###,###,###.00")
2,012,548.86
?format("20,000.00", "$#########.00")
