how to generate unique quote number after saving data?

i have grid .i select some records in grid and click on save button.after clciking event on save button i need to save data in ms access 2003 database and save time after data saving it should return unique quote number which we will display to user.for example your quote number is this .............

i am using c# language and database ms access 2003.

Do you have a field with autonumber in the database ?
If so, you just need to add "SELECT @@IDENTITY " to your sql-statement (after your insert) to retireve the new id.
See example below !

Alternately you can aslo use the DateTime or GUID

 string uniqueID;
 uniqueID = DateTime.Now.ToString(@"yyMMddhhmmss");
 
 Or

 uniqueID = System.Guid.NewGuid().ToString();

dear dhaest,
            i am using ms access there is autonumber datatype.if i m entering 100 items in one quote all 100 items will have same unique quote number? after saving i need to display it also.

Are these numbers always restarted at startup from your program or must they be unique for each record you insert (and if so, why don't you use an autogenerated number) ?
