How do I program a button to search for an update?

I have created a simple program for our users. I am constantly making updates to it and would like to have a button that will update the program to the latest version. Currently it searches for an update when the program is launched. I have the updates on a local server.

.net allows you autoupdate when program launches, as you have stated. My suggestion is:
Look for change of date/time of one file of app installer in your server, when detected, show a message asking to re-launch the application.

You may also create a WCF Service which will always return the latest version of your program.

The update button will call the WCF Service and if the Version Number returned is higher then the local version installed by user you can trigger the Upgrade process.
