Can anybody recommend any .NET libraries with C# demo code for scanning using twain?

you can use the twain_32.dll into your application.
it's not a DotNet so you will use [DllImport ....].
follow these few steps and it'll be easy to use:

1) add it to reference.
2) then use this code to use the twain_32
3) you will find clear and simple 5 methods into it:
    Init();
    Select();
    Acquire();
    PassMessage();
    TransferPictures();
