apache-tomcat-6.0.16 / JSF - java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/apache/commons/digester/RuleSet

Hi.

I am getting the following error when I try to deploy a war file containing a web app that uses jsf.

SEVERE: Error configuring application listener of class com.sun.faces.config.ConfigureListener
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/apache/commons/digester/RuleSet

I can find this class in C:\apache-tomcat-6.0.16\lib\tomcat-coyote.jar. And even tried putting it in the lib folder under web-inf which has the two jsf jars.

Well I guess I was using old jsf-api.jar and jsf-impl.jar files. Downloaded new ones and the app deploys. But now I am getting a

java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javax/servlet/jsp/jstl/core/Config

looking for the jar file now.

Added jstl.jar and standard.jar.

Now I'm back to not being able to deploy the application with this error??

This class is in jsf-api.jar so not sure why it can't find it.

Tomcat doesn't come standard with JSF support, so you'll have to add the JSF API jar to the tomcat lib dir. On Tomcat 6 you'll need the JSF 1.2 API.

Thanks! Can you tell me why it doesn't work with the jsf jar files in the web-inf/lib directory?

It should be possible to get it working with the extra jars only in the web-inf/lib folder. No idea why it is not working for you because my test application is set up as such.

make sure you've the correct version of common-digester in WEB-INF/lib
