Storing session variables in Struts 2

Hello experts,

Im using struts 2 for a project and I want to store an object in a session, so that I can have access to it from all Actions and JSPs.

I found this using Google's code search:

UserSession usr = (UserSession) ServletActionContext.getRequest().getSession().getAttribute("navigationContext");

Is that the preferred way of doing it? Or is there a more modern, typesafe way?

In all Struts2 Actions throughout the entire application, I suppose:

ServletActionContext.getRequest().getSession().getAttribute()

Allows for that?

the request is already passed to the execute() method so u can get the session from it
request.getSession()

there is a misunderstanding here. Mr Object talks about struts 1 while henrikatwork talks about struts 2. In struts 2 you implement interface SessionAware. Then you'll have access to a map containing all attributes in session. In struts 1 the request object is given as parameter to execute method, in struts 2 the execute method doesnt have any parameters
