Question

struts - Invalid path was requested

Asked by: kakameimei

I am a fresh user of struts. I found that I can't use the class inside the struts library.

In struts-config.xml, I have the following action mapping:

             <action
                   path="/Locale"
                   type="org.apache.struts.actions.LocaleAction"
                   parameter="welcome" />

When my page linking to Locale.do, it returned the following error:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HTTP Status 404 - Invalid path was requested

type: Status report

message: Invalid path was requested

description: The requested resource (Invalid path was requested) is not available.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alright. You need to define a form-bean in your struts-config.xml
and use the name of this in the name attribute of your <action/> tag.

I mean,

<action
     name="your_form_bean_name"
     path="/Locale"
     type="org.apache.struts.actions.LocaleAction"
     parameter="welcome" />

radarsh,

Thanks a lot! Let me try it.

But I wonder why the struts example (e.g. mailreader) does not need to define that?
In the struts-config.xml of mailreader, the locale action is as follows:

      <!-- Change locale action -->
      <action
          path="/Locale"
          type="org.apache.struts.webapp.example.LocaleAction"
          parameter="welcome" />

by: kakameimeiPosted on 2006-02-22 at 00:48:46ID: 16016844

radarsh,

If I map the action as your example, it means that I need to create one action mapping for each form calling locale action?

by: radarshPosted on 2006-02-22 at 00:50:20ID: 16016847

Oh I'm sorry I didn't see that you are using LocaleAction. Name attribute isn't
required here. It's some other problem here.

To use LocaleAction, you need to create the following formbean and bind the formbean to the action.
LocaleAction will look for the "language", "country" and "page" property from formbean.

    <form-bean name="localeForm" type="org.apache.struts.action.DynaActionForm">
        <form-property name="language" type="java.lang.String" />
        <form-property name="country" type="java.lang.String" />
        <form-property name="page" type="java.lang.String" />
    </form-bean>

    <action  path="/Locale"
             name="localeForm"
             type="org.apache.struts.actions.LocaleAction"
             scope="request">
        <forward name="success"     path="/welcome.do" />
    </action>

If you specify the page on the link, it will forward to that page, else will redirect to the "success" path.

    <html:link action="/Locale?language=en&country=US&page=/login.do">en-US</html:link>

Try setting the initial value for "page".

       <form-bean name="localeForm" type="org.apache.struts.action.DynaActionForm">
          <form-property name="language" type="java.lang.String" />
          <form-property name="country" type="java.lang.String" />
          <form-property name="page" type="java.lang.String" initial="/Welcome.do"/>
        </form-bean>

Boon Leng,

It works now. Thanks a lot!

However, I really wonder why the sample webapp, mailreader, which is downloaded from http://struts.apache.org/download.cgi , does not need such setting and config.

Thanks again!!!

by: boonlengPosted on 2006-02-22 at 18:55:49ID: 16025795

You are using a predefine struts action "org.apache.struts.actions.LocaleAction".
Whereas the sample is using a custom action "org.apache.struts.webapp.example.LocaleAction".
So the configuration is different.

Regards,
Boon Leng
