JSP property="*" not picking up checkbox data from form

Hi,

I have a JSP containing a web form which contains the following java bean reference:

The form questions are as follows (note the questions are displayed by looping through info pulled from a database.  The jsp info in each of the questions is also pulled from the database)

When the form is submitted the data in the form fields is processed by a method called using: validator.validate() which confirms that all required fields in the form are filled in.  The validator works just fine on all questions except if the question involves checkboxes.  For some reason, the properties in the Validate_Student_Placement class are not set for checkboxes.  Note, the data for the school (select question) and the measure_of_success (radiobutton question) are matched up in the Validate_Student_Placement bean with no problems.  It's only the  role_involved_in (checkbox question) that does not end up with its data in the Validate_Student_Placement java bean.  This code worked perfectly fine when running on Resin 2 and 3, but now I've moved it to a server with Tomcat 6, I am having this problem with checkbox questions.
