Have you tried looking at IceFaces? IceFaces is a nice and relatively new AJAX based JSP technology.
I am currently using IceFaces for a large web application. IceFaces has many unique tags which are a lot richer and cooler than regular jsp and they take most of the work out of it too!
IceFaces has the file upload feature. I just made this for my own application as well.
