Can someone explain why both links point to the same jsp whe considering WebContent appears in the localhost path but not in the deployed path (Websphere).

A URL is always a logical pointer to a resource which can be located anywhere on the physical server.
The tomcat you are running most probably is 6.x where the nominclature is to keep the resources in a folder called webcontent.
while websphere's URL path also is point to the same physical path.
