but we already have getServletConfig() method for getting servletconfig object, so why we go for init(servletconfig), what is the difference b/w both the cases?

>>so why we go for init(servletconfig)
no need to, as I said earlier, its just a convenient method so that you need to call getServletConfig
>>what is the difference b/w both the cases?
there are no diffs as a developer. you can override init(servletconfig) but be aware, you should invoke super.init(servletconfig).
The implementation of "init(ServletConfig)" and "init(ServletConfig)" is as above.
init(ServletConfig) is mainly there for setting the class variable "config" with the ServletConfig object and will be called by the container.
So, if u want anything to be done while initializing the servlet, it should be preferably done in init().

both the mehtods are called by the servlet container, the later is just an convenient method. if you want to hold a handle for ServletConfig for later use, you can override init(servletconfig) but be aware, you should invoke super.init(servletconfig).
even if you just override init(), you can get the reference of ServletConfig by invoking getServletConfig(). just your choice!
