How to get the Last Character of a string in java

How do i get the last character of a string im java for example
if string str="JAVA RULES"
then the output is S
If strring str="JAVA RULES "
then putput is blank space

always better to check the string length before trying to get the last char to avoid ArrayIndexOutOfBound exception,

if( str != null && str.length() > 0 ) lastChar = str.charAt( str.length() - 1 ) ;

itkamaraj's suggestion is correct; however, ksivananth's suggestion is the best way to implement to avoid unexpected errors if string is variable (passed in by user or another non-static means).

Thanks ksivananth for that extra tip of checking the array length before doing any operation. It can applied to many other similar things in java. Good Tip.
